Ted Koppel slammed Fox News host Sean Hannity as "bad for America" in a segment of CBS's "Sunday Morning."
In an interview with Hannity on the show, Koppel conceded that the Fox star was good at what he does, but explained that "in the long haul I think you and all these opinion shows" are bad for America, because "you have attracted people who are determined that ideology is more important than facts."
Hannity defended himself during the interview, saying it is "sad" that Koppel feels that way, adding that the veteran journalist is cynical.
He also explained that "we have to give some credit to the American people that they're somewhat intelligent and that they know the difference between an opinion show and a news show."
Hannity, who is known for being a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump on his weeknight show, said after the failure of the Republicans to vote on their healthcare plan on Friday that the president is in no way to blame for the result.
Hannity responded on Twitter, saying the 45-minute interview was edited to cut out examples he gave Koppel on media bias.
