Poll: 40% Canceled Crowded Gatherings Last Week

Forty percent of Americans say they canceled large gatherings last week due to the coronavirus outbreak, a poll by the Kaiser Family Foundation reveals.

The poll was conducted March 11-15 as fears over the virus outbreak began to escalate in the U.S.

Here are how the poll results break down:

• 40% say their lives have been disrupted “a lot” or “some” 
• 62% say they worry they or someone in their family will get sick.
• 51% say their retirement or college savings will be negatively impacted.
• 53% of workers say they are worried they will lose income due to workplace closures or reduced hours.
• 41% of workers fear they will put themselves at risk because they can’t afford to stay home from work.

The poll surveyed 1,216 adults. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
