Judge: Trump Admin's Failure to Fund Consumer Watchdog Will Violate Court Order

Tuesday, 30 December 2025 10:39 AM EST

A federal judge on Tuesday rejected the Trump administration's claim ‍that ‍it is legally barred from securing funding for the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, finding that this ‍would violate an existing court order barring the administration from shutting the agency down.

The ruling came 24 hours before the ‍last day on which officials ‌said there would be sufficient funding to meet ‍the operating expenses at the ‍CFPB.
