Joe Lieberman Joins Private Equity Firm

Former Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut has joined the asset-management firm Victory Park Capital as chairman of the executive board.

Lieberman retired from the Senate in January 2013 after serving for six terms. In 2006, he was re-elected as an Independent after losing in the Democratic primary.

Brendan Carroll, partner and co-founder of VPC, which provides private debt and equity financing to middle-market companies, said in its announcement Thursday that Lieberman's "wealth of experience will bring tremendous value" to the firm. Richard Levy, managing partner and founder, said Lieberman's "business acumen and deep policy background will be critical."

The 2000 Democratic vice presidential candidate pointed to his role as a senator as he joined VPC, reports Politico.

"While in the U.S. Senate, I fought for policies that would allow small businesses to thrive," Lieberman said. "I look forward to a long-term partnership with Victory Park Capital that will position the firm for continued growth."

Lieberman will continue to serve as co-chairman of the American Enterprise Institute's American Internationalism Project as well as senior counsel at Kasowitz, Benson, Torres & Friedman LLP, the release said.
