Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker lashed out at President Donald Trump in a tweet on Sunday after the president denounced him and other governors who have criticized his handling of the coronavirus crisis.
“You wasted precious months when you could've taken action to protect Americans & Illinoisans,” Pritzker, a Democrat, wrote. “You should be leading a national response instead of throwing tantrums from the back seat. Where were the tests when we needed them? Where's the PPE [personal protective equipment]? Get off Twitter & do your job.”
Trump had earlier Sunday sent out a message on Twitter that Pritzker and “a very small group of certain other Governors, together with Fake News @CNN& Concast (MSDNC), shouldn’t be blaming the Federal Government for their own shortcomings. We are there to back you up should you fail, and always will be!”
The president sent out his tweet after Pritzker told CNN that an inadequate response from the federal government had forced Illinois to compete like “the wild west” against other states and nations for much needed supplies, emphasizing that it “should have been a coordinated effort by the federal government.”
