A New Year's Eve date with Hillary Clinton? You betcha, say 37 percent of New Yorkers who have named the former secretary of state their favorite companion for a little end-of-year revelry,
Politico reports.
The former first lady — and presumed Democratic candidate for president in 2016 — beat New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and embattled Big Apple Mayor Bill de Blasio by a wide margin,
according to a fun poll of Empire State voters released Monday by Quinnipiac University.
"Their favorite New Year's date would be the lady from Chappaqua," poll assistant director Maurice Carroll said in a news release announcing the results. "Who knows? Maybe she can return the favor some day with an invitation to the White House."
Not surprisingly, the poll skewed along partisan — and gender — lines even for date night, the Quinnipiac pollsters found, noting that "43 percent of women, 30 percent of men, 52 percent of Democrats, and 45 percent of voters 18 to 29 years old" would choose their former U.S. senator as a party companion.
Just 15 percent of Republican voters want a date night with Clinton, but she outpaces Cuomo (11 percent) and de Blasio (2 percent) even among the GOP. A majority of Republicans, however, have little interest in Clinton or either of the other Democrats named in the poll, Quinnipiac noted, as 71 percent said they'd pick "none of them."
Clinton gets high approval in three other, but distinctly different, recent surveys. She tops
Gallup's annual list of most admired women for the 13th year in a row.
She also far outpaces any other suggested 2016 Democratic presidential contender in a
Real Clear Politics polling average through Dec. 21, leading possible opponents, including Elizabeth Warren, Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders, among others, with 49.5 percent.
Clinton also wins against possible Republican presidential challenger Jeb Bush by 13 points — 54-41 percent — in a head-to-head contest,
a CNN/ORC poll found.
