A Hillary Clinton doll, dangling from a metal hook looped through green yarn and displayed inside a Rhode Island store, is sparking outrage, the Providence Journal reports.
A Trump sign next to it reads: "Make America Great Again."
The 11.5-inch doll, dressed in a blue pantsuit, has stirred bitter controversy inside the Pleasant View Orchards store in Smithfield, which sells apples, pumpkins, apple cider, donuts and other items. According to the newspaper, the $24.99 plush toy, which is available online, says things like: "Not a single one of my emails was classified" and "I don't believe I ever lied — to the public."
But people are not too pleased how the doll is displayed in the store, according to Facebook postings and Yelp reviews, the newspaper notes.
One describes it as "a despicable display of misogyny." Another calls it a "public lynching display."
"I cannot support a bigoted business such as this one. Having a doll of Hillary Clinton, Secretary of State, with a noose around her neck? That is not only so disrespectful but misogynistic and hateful," wrote 'Ellie B.' in Providence. "Please patronize the good folks. Hate does not deserve their money."
But the owner of the store, Tony Polseno, Jr, who says the doll was given to him by a customer, doesn't understand what all the fuss is about.
"They're making it look like I want to hang people," he told the paper. "I don't do that . . . We don't want to be mean. We don't want to offend anyone. If we offend anyone, I'll take it down."
