There is "zero" chance of repealing Obamacare, even if the Republican Party wins control of the Senate in the 2014 midterm elections, Rep. Mike Rogers said.
"The chance of repealing Obamacare is zero," the Alabama Republican told members of the Pell City Rotary Club in his district, according to
The Hill, which cited a report in
The Daily Home.
Rogers' comments stand in contrast to repeated pledges of Republican lawmakers to repeal the law should they gain control of both chambers in Congress.
Rogers insisted, however, that any efforts to repeal or modify the new healthcare law would ultimately amount to nothing, given President Barack Obama's ability to veto legislation.
He added that even an attempt to overturn a presidential veto would be unsuccessful because it would require a two-thirds majority in both the House and the Senate, which Republicans wouldn't have.
