President Donald Trump took to Twitter to defend his decision to hit the links over the Memorial Weekend, after former Vice President Joe Biden ripped him for golfing as the coronavirus continues to impact the country.

Biden released a political ad calling the president out for golfing as “nearly 100,000 lives have been lost, and tens of millions are out of work. Meanwhile, the president spent his day golfing.”

Trump then fired off a series of tweets throughout holiday weekend. Trump tweeted Monday morning that the mainstream news media covered his Virginia golf club trip this weekend like it was a "mortal sin.” He said he got outside for a “little exercise” and attacked the media for not covering "Sleepy Joe’s poor work ethic, or all of the time Obama spent on the golf course.”

"They are sick with hatred and dishonesty,” he tweeted of the media. “They are truly deranged! They don’t mention Sleepy Joe’s poor work ethic, or all of the time Obama spent on the golf course, often flying to Hawaii in a big, fully loaded 747, to play. What did that do to the so-called Carbon Footprint?”

Trump and Biden went back and forth throughout the weekend.

Biden tweeted, "The presidency is about a lot more than tweeting from your golf cart. It requires taking on the ultimate responsibility for the biggest decisions in the world. Donald Trump simply wasn’t prepared for that. I promise you I will be.”
