Democrats in Florida have taken a massive lead in the number of absentee ballots cast before the upcoming election when compared to Republicans in the state, Politico reports.
Democrats already lead the GOP by a 384,000-vote margin in Florida, having cast 1,647,037 of the 3,848,071 absentee ballots cast so far in the 2020 general election, compared to Republicans’ 1,239,882 ballots.
“There’s a big wave of Republicans coming. And frankly, that’s a data point that a lot of people tweeting about this fail to realize,” said Democrat operative Steve Schale, the head of the pro-Biden super PAC Unite the Country.
“The numbers are pretty staggering for us and the return rates and the polling look good,” he added. “But there’s just a lot we don’t know.”
“Voting in Florida is a marathon. And what you’re seeing is a bit of a sprint from the Democrats,” said Susie Wiles, the director of the Trump campaign’s Florida efforts. “But we have far more high-propensity voters on our side. That should be noted in all the hype about the Democrats’ lead. We’re not finished. We’re turning our sights to early in-person voting and to Election Day.”
