Dr. Anthony Fauci, a top medical expert with the White House coronavirus task force, said the United States will be back to a “real degree of normality” by November, suggesting the coronavirus pandemic will have died down by the time the presidential election occurs.
“I would hope that by November we would have things under such control that we could have a real degree of normality. That’s my interest and my job as a public health person,” Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, told Brian Williams on MSNBC.
A national debate continues to roar over whether to adopt a mail-in voting system for the November elections to avoid spreading coronavirus.
Republicans think such a system would be a ripe opportunity for opponents to commit voter fraud.
“Republicans should fight very hard when it comes to state wide mail-in voting,” Trump tweeted Wednesday. “Democrats are clamoring for it. Tremendous potential for voter fraud, and for whatever reason, doesn’t work out well for Republicans.”
Democrats claim that a state-wide mail-in voting method would keep voters safe.
“We have a different value system about what voting means to a democracy,” Democratic House Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. told The Hill. “Clearly, we want to remove all obstacles to participation.”
