Facebook has announced 4.4 million people have registered to vote following the launch of the social media network's voting information center last summer, chief executive Mark Zuckerberg wrote in a post Monday.
"This year, we launched the largest voting information campaign in US history, with the goal of helping 4 million people register to vote," he wrote. "Today, we hit our goal. We estimate we've helped 4.4 million people register across our apps – based on conversion rates we calculated from states we've partnered with."
Zuckerberg added, "If you haven't voted yet, check out: facebook.com/votinginfocenter to learn how to cast a ballot in your area."
The voting information center includes a factsheet of voting information, including official locations of ballot drop-off boxes, a person's rights when going to the polls, and other voting tips.
Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, announced earlier this month they will donate $100 million to election security efforts ahead of the upcoming election, and just a month after they already donated $300 million towards the issue.
"Voting is the foundation of democracy," Zuckerberg wrote at the time. "It's how we express our voice and make sure our country is heading in the direction we want. Priscilla and I remain determined to ensure that every state and local election jurisdiction has the resources they need so Americans can vote."
