A new advertising campaign is urging California Gov. Gavin Newsom to allow Disneyland and other theme parks in the state to reopen after being closed for months because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Orange County Register reported that the commercial was put together by Reopen O.C. Now, a coalition of city leaders from Anaheim, Buena Park, and Garden Grove, along with the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce.
"It's time to responsibly reopen and get us back to work," the narrator says in the ad. "And no one can do it better than Disneyland Resort. Anaheim is proud of the work we do and ready to roll up our sleeves and get back to it.
"Tell Gov. Newsom to help Anaheim get back to work. Let's reopen theme parks and reawaken our region."
Theme parks in California have been closed since the middle of March, when COVID-19 was spreading nationwide. Newsom has kept them closed despite pleas to reopen them.
Reopen O.C. Now said in statement to the Register: "The State of California has issued health care guidelines to allow for the reopening of virtually every aspect of life and business, except theme parks. This lack of guidance means these economic engines, responsible for close to 100,000 jobs in Southern California, can't finalize plans for reopening."
