Conservative author and filmmaker Dinesh D'Souza used Martin Luther King Jr. Day to lash out at President Barack Obama, and even compared his own plight with that of King.
D'Souza took to Twitter on Monday to make several statements.
King was jailed multiple times for his civil rights activities, and his "Letter from Birmingham Jail" is still read by students. D'Souza is serving eight months in a halfway house for illegal campaign contributions to his longtime friend Wendy Long's unsuccessful run for Senate from New York. He also received five years probation and a $30,000 fine.
D'Souza and many legal scholars say his sentence was more harsh than normal and have speculated that his conservative politics may have influenced his prosecution by the Obama Justice Department.
Several of D'Souza's tweets directly targeted the president:
D'Souza also tweeted that he will appear on Fox News Channel's
"The Kelly File" Monday night to discuss "how we went from MLK to the current crop of race hustlers."
