Dartmouth College received an anonymous gift of $100 million, the largest single outright donation in the Ivy League school’s history.
Part of the funds will be used to create 30 to 40 endowed positions over the next decade, Hanover, New Hampshire-based Dartmouth said in a statement.
The college will attempt to raise an additional $100 million by challenging other donors through the end of next year, according to Justin Anderson, a Dartmouth spokesman.
“I am deeply honored and grateful for this extraordinary act of generosity,” Dartmouth President Philip Hanlon, who was hired last year, said in a statement. “This historic gift is an exceptional vote of confidence.”
