A former CNN investigative reporter who was wounded in a hotel shootout is back on the job from his hospital bed, according to
NBC News.
Chuck de Caro was shot last month and killed a would-be robber when his wife, former CNN anchor Lynne Russell, was
accosted by a gunman at the hotel they were staying at in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to mark their one year anniversary.
De Caro, who is also a Special Forces member and military expert, took three bullets during the shootout that left the gunman dead.
Since leaving journalism, de Caro leads a cyberwar platform called SOFTWAR. He was actively managing an exercise this weekend during his stay in the University of New Mexico Hospital, according to NBC News.
"I never thought I'd be running a … war game from a hospital bed after having been shot three times," de Caro said Sunday, according to NBC News. "But I'm feeling better and looking forward to a full recovery and getting back to the business of advancing the information warfare capabilities of our country."
Russell, who was on air for CNN from 1983-2001, described how proud she was of her husband.
"I am very, very proud of my husband. He is my hero," she said, according to NBC News. "He saved my life."
