First lady Melania Trump made a surprise visit to a New York City hospital Thursday to read to young patients in celebration of "National Read Across America Day" – and Dr. Seuss' birthday.
The first lady chose a Seuss favorite of hers and son Barron to read to children gathered in the pediatrics' ward playroom at New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center – "Oh! The Places You'll Go!"
"Do you know what is today? It's reading day," she told the children, CNN reported.
"So it's reading day, and I came here to encourage everyone to read, and to just think about books and what you want to achieve in life and just extend your horizon and think very, very outside of the box."
An aide to the first lady also delivered a box filled with an assortment of Dr. Seuss classics to the playroom, and Mrs. Trump posed for photos with young patients during her visit, CNN reported.
The visit follows the first lady's trip to Washington for the President's joint address to Congress on Tuesday night; while in the nation's capitol, she attended a bill signing in the Oval Office on closing the gender gap in STEM education – and stopped by Children's National hospital.
Mrs. Trump and her son continue to live in Trump Tower in New York City while Barron finishes the school year.
