GoFundMe Group Begins Building Wall

The group behind the GoFundMe campaign that raised $21 million for partial construction of a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border wall has broken ground and is asking for additional funds, CNN reports.

The project's leader, Air Force veteran and triple amputee Brian Kolfage wrote on his Facebook page Monday:

"WE DID IT!!! First privately funded wall is nearly complete! DONATE NOW to fund more walls! We have many more projects lined up!"

"We have wall #2 lined up but need donations!" Kolfage wrote separately. "Make this go viral."

Kolfage said nearly a mile of the wall was built by Fisher Industries on property owned by American Eagle Brick Co. near the border of El Paso, Texas.

Former White House strategist Steve Bannon, who heads the "We Build the Wall" group, told Yahoo! the project cost $6 million and involved hundreds of workers. It took four days to complete the portion of the wall along what Bannon said was the most dangerous part of the border with Mexico, "where the cartels and asylum seekers are coming in."

Kolfage said he plans to sell the portion of the wall to the U.S. government for just $1.
