The Obama administration set a Monday deadline for a federal judge to lift his order blocking a controversial immigration program or it will appeal the decision.
The White House told U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen in Brownsville, Texas, of the new deadline in an advisory filed the day after 26 states, led by Texas, urged Hanen to keep his restriction in place while their lawsuit challenging the policy is decided.
The Obama administration has already appealed Hanen’s Feb. 16 preliminary ruling that it sidestepped federal rule-making procedures by failing to let the public review and comment on regulations before they’re put in place.
