Rapper Azealia Banks agrees with Donald Trump's tough immigration policy, saying it may ultimately help the black community.
"America has been really good at convincing me that everyone else's problems are more important than my own," Banks wrote on her Instagram account.
Then urging her fans to weigh in, Banks wrote:
"Do you think it's bad that I sort of agree with [Trump's] stance on immigration? Not for any other reason other than black Americans still not having been paid reparations for slavery and the influx [of]…. immigrants (not just Mexicans), are sucking up state aid, and government money, space in schools, quality of life…"
The outspoken Harlem rapper – who
mercilessly mocked Ron Paul for his remarks on secession last week – later defended her stance on Twitter.
"Who's going to pay for [mass immigration]?" Banks also tweeted. "I'd much rather have my tax dollars go to making schools better then spreading schools thin."
Banks' position triggered an angry response, including from the regional director, Americas, for Buzzfeed News,
Conz Preti.
"I'm not sucking up state aid nor your gov money. I'm … working and not bothering you,” Preti tweeted.
"Yes, but eventually you and the other 10 million undocumented immigrants will have children who need schooling and need food stamps etc"
Banks responded.
Preti shot back that she wasn't illegal.
The Obama administration's
immigration orders have soured black voters, some analysts believe. But it's not only
Trump's stance on immigration that has won over support from a wide range of voters,
his position on U.S. trade also is resonating with labor advocates, blue-collar workers and minorities,
Breitbart News reports.
