A gun-carrying restaurant employee in Florida shot dead a 26-year-old masked gunman who tried to rob the business Wednesday.

Wearing a ski mask, Roosevelt Jones, of Miami, entered the Captain Max Seafood restaurant in Miramar just before 6 p.m., the Sun-Sentinel reports. The restaurant is located just north of Miami.

After an "exchange of words," the employee pulled out his own weapon and fired, Miramar Police spokeswoman Tania Rues said.

Jones also fired, CBS Miami reports, but the employee was not hit.

"A restaurant employee fired several shots and killed the suspect," Rues told the Sun-Sentinel.

The worker was not identified. He was seen getting into the back of a police car after the incident, according to reports.

Other customers were in the restaurant at the time of the shooting but none were hurt, CBS Miami reports.

Police suspect that another person may have been involved in the robbery attempt.

"Luckily, only the suspect was hurt, but there are other situations where innocent bystanders could have been hurt as well," Rues told the Sun-Sentinel. "We would hope that people do not take the situation into their own hands."
