Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe theorized Tuesday that President Donald Trump could be an asset of Russian intelligence.

"I think it's possible – I think that's why we started our investigation, and I'm really anxious to see where [special counsel Robert] Mueller concludes that," McCabe told CNN's Anderson Cooper.

McCabe has done several television interviews in recent days as he publicizes his new book, "The Threat: How the FBI Protects America in the Age of Terror and Trump." He has made several claims against the president involving the FBI's probe into whether he was a national security threat and whether his campaign conspired with Russia to win the 2016 presidential election.

McCabe was fired one day before his retirement in March 2018, which caused him to lose part of his government pension.
