A 50-mile stretch of Interstate 80 in Wyoming between Cheyenne and Laramie was closed during an April snow storm after several pileups involving about 50 cars and trucks on both sides of the highway west of Cheyenne.

No fatalities were reported but about two dozen people were taken to a hospital in Cheyenne, reported The Associated Press. The most critical had back and leg injuries.

About 150 miles of I-80 between Cheyenne and Rawlins was closed because of the spring storm that continueed to bring snow to southeast Wyoming.

Snow was expected to continue to fall periodically across the region, with rain falling at lower elevations.

Snowfall amounts included 5 inches at Cheyenne, around 10 inches in the Laramie area and a foot or more in the mountains of Albany and Carbon counties.
