Woody Harrelson Says He’s 'Anarchist,' Compares Obama to Nixon

Woody Harrelson described himself as an anarchist and says President Barack Obama is more like President Richard Nixon than other presidential predecessors in a recent interview.

"I’m an anarchist, I guess you could say. I think people could be just fine looking after themselves," Harrelson told Details magazine in a recent interview.

"I tend to not like politicians, because it’s a subtle form of prostitution," Harrelson said. "Or maybe not so subtle . . . It’s all synchronized swimming to me. They all kneel and kiss the ring. Who’s going to take on the oil industry or the medical industry?"

Urgent: Is Obama Telling the Truth on IRS, Benghazi Scandals?

The 51-year-old Texas-born actor, who's starred in such films as "The People vs. Larry Flynt," "Natural Born Killers," "No Country for Old Men," and most recently "The Hunger Games," has long been a consistently vocal critic of the U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

As a result of his anti-war stance, Harrelson has bucked the trend in Hollywood with his criticism of the president for not having pulled the troops out of Afghanistan.

"People compare Obama to Lyndon Johnson, but I think a better comparison is between Obama and Nixon. Because Nixon came into office saying he was going to pull out of Vietnam, and then he escalated the war," Harrelson said. "A lot of us were led to believe that Obama was the peace president, but there are still, I think, 70,000 troops in Afghanistan."

When asked about being raised in a very religious family in Texas, the actor said he has since, "shook off the yoke of organized religion and became a hedonist."

Although he believes marijuana should be legalized, Harrelson was not optimistic that the drug would be legalized any time in the near future.

Urgent Poll: Is the US Economy Healthy? Is it a Bubble About to Burst Again? Vote Now

"I can't imagine that it's going to happen, no," he said. "The deeper issue is, what does it mean to live in a free country? In the U.S., something like 80 percent of people in prison are there for 'consensual crimes.'"

"The government may change faces from time to time, but it's not like we fight wars for democracy—we fight wars for capitalism and for oil," Harrelson added. "I keep coming back to the same goddamn subject. I guess because it's what really bugs me the most."
