"Wonder Woman" was snubbed in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Oscar nods, receiving no nominations in any category despite grossing $821 million worldwide, earning other honors, and generating buzz for director Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot.
The film was considered a contender for a Best Picture win after being nominated for the Producers Guild of America Darryl F. Zanuck Award. American Film Institute also listed the movie as one of its Top 10 Films of 2017.
Besides Jenkins and Gadot, Allen Heinberg and William Moulton Marston were thought to have a chance in the adapted screenplay category after being nominated for the prestigious USC Scripter Awards.
Art direction and costume design were other categories some thought might be garner nominations, but none were given. Lindy Hemming was nominated by the Costume Designers Guild in the fantasy film category.
“Wonder Woman” won a Screen Actors Guild Award on Sunday for outstanding performance by a stunt ensemble in a motion picture. No category for stunt work exists in the Academy Awards.
Two females did get nominations for their movies, including director Greta Gerwig for “Lady Bird” and cinematographer Rachel Morrison for “Mudbound.”
Shocked fans took to Twitter to express their surprise about the slight to "Wonder Woman."
