A Canadian woman involved in a car accident has insisted her dog was driving the vehicle when it veered off the road and into a ditch. Royal Canadian Mounted Police were presented with the unique scenario after receiving reports that someone had crashed their car into a ditch in Vancouver recently. Arriving at the scene, they discovered the 58-year-old woman, who was reportedly drunk, and her pooch by the car.

"The woman told police that it was just her and her dog inside the vehicle at the time it was driven into the ditch — and that the dog was driving," a RCMP statement read. "The officer quickly developed the opinion that this woman’s ability to operate her motor vehicle was affected by alcohol."

The woman refused to provide a breath sample and was prohibited from driving for 90 days.

This is not the first time that police have had to deal with doggy drivers. Earlier this year a Washington state man was arrested after allegedly teaching his Pitbull how to drive. He and his canine pal could have gone undetected, but the (human) driver allegedly struck two vehicles at the Boeing Access Road exit in South Seattle, according to KOMO.

A high-speed chase ensued when the man, and his dog, then attempted to flee the scene. When authorities finally pulled him over, they found the dog in the front seat. When questioned, the man told troopers that he was teaching his Pitbull how to drive. He was arrested and is now facing charges of DUI, reckless driving, hit-and-run, and felony eluding.
