A Maryland woman's back-alley butt implants killed her over the weekend and now police in New York are on the hunt for the quack doctor who performed the procedure out of a Queens basement.
Kelly Mayhew, a 34-year-old from Suitland, Maryland, who desired a derriere like Beyonce's, died Saturday after receiving injections from an unlicensed phony plastic surgeon in
Far Rockaway, the New York Daily News reported.
Mayhew, who worked as a producer at the BET TV network in Washington D.C., drove with her mother to the basement apartment to undergo what she though was a silicone injection procedure to plump her booty. The procedure was reportedly arranged through a family friend.
But once the female doctor injected Mayhew, who reportedly had five previous butt enhancement procedures, she began to gurgle and struggle for breath, her mother told authorities.
Mayhew’s mother immediately tried to resuscitate her daughter, performing CPR and calling 911. Meanwhile the doctor fled the scene in a gray SUV, according to the Daily News.
Mayhew was taken to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, where she later died. An autopsy was inconclusive.
“Following the examination, we are doing additional studies and also await the police investigation," Julie Bolcer, representative for the city medical examiner’s office, said in a statement.
Friends and family members say Mayhew was perfect in every way, but always insisted on getting butt implants so she could fit in her clothes better.
“She would say to me, ‘I want things to fit right,’”
Mayhew’s ex-boyfriend told The Daily Beast. “I would talk to her, but she continued to say her clothes don’t fit the way her body was shaped.”
Black-market butt injections are becoming more popular among women, with an estimated 10,000 procedures
performed every year, according to statistics on PlasticSurgery.org.
