Wolf Blitzer Comments Morph Through Social Media; Stockman Wants Apology

Twitter users and Republican Rep. Steve Stockman are after Wolf Blitzer for supposedly using the Boston Marathon explosions as an opportunity to "attack political opponents," even though the CNN anchor's comments seem to have been morphed on social media.

During CNN's coverage Monday of the two Boston Marathon blasts that killed three and left countless others injured, Blitzer pointed out that Monday marked Patriots' Day.

"It is a state holiday in Massachusetts today called Patriots' Day and who knows if that had anything at all to do with these explosions," Blitzer said.

Patriots' Day is a holiday meant to commemorate the anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord, the first battles of the Revolutionary War. Conspiracy theories are already swirling that the bombings were the work of far-right, anti-government, anti-tax (perhaps even Tea Party) extremists.

But Blitzer merely pointed out the coincidence in the date; he didn’t suggest that Tea Party extremists were to blame. Nonetheless, Twitter users immediately slammed his comments.

Soon, Texas congressman Stockman also jumped on the bandwagon, urging Blitzer to apologize.

Blitzer later defended himself on Twitter.
