The "Winds of Winter" procrastination will continue it seems, much to the disappointment of "Game of Thrones" fans waiting for the sixth book in the series.

Author George R.R. Martin originally scheduled the release of the next book in his "Song of Ice and Fire" series for 2017, Fox News reported, but the year has passed and still nothing has emerged.

"Game of Thrones," which is based upon the "Song of Ice and Fire" series, is already two seasons ahead of the books, and now the author announced instead the coming release of spinoff, "Fire and Blood."

The spinoff will explore the history of House Targaryen and will be released as two volumes, according to Time magazine.

Martin divulged this information in the comments of his LiveJournal blog, where he engaged with curious fans about his upcoming work.

"The first volume should be completed soon," he said about the release of "Fire and Blood," per CNET, adding that "the second is hardly begun."

The author added that "Winds of Winter" would only be released after the first volume of "Fire and Blood."

The news puts to rest speculation that was sparked earlier this week after a bookstore slated the release date for the next installment of the "Song of Ice and Fire" series as Sept. 6, 2018, The Express noted.

Since then the listing was removed and instead the store said "fingers crossed" that the book would be released in 2018.
