The Cleveland Indians' 15-game win streak is going to cost a local window company $1.7 million in rebates.
Universal Windows Direct offered its customers in July free rebates on services if the team won 15 games in a row between Aug. 1 and the end of the season. The team began its win streak on Aug. 24 and Thursday’s 11-2 win against the Chicago White Sox capped 15 games in a row, putting the window company on the hook for about $1.7 million in installation, siding, doors, and other services.
“I never believed it was going to happen, so I only started paying attention yesterday,” customer Lorianne Sevic told ESPN. Sevic will get a $34,000 rebate for windows, siding, doors and gutters.
Universal Windows owners William Barr and Mike Strmac bought a $75,000 insurance policy to cover the payout if the Indians were to accomplish the win streak, ESPN reported.
The owners had a party with their customers Thursday night at Progressive Field in Cleveland to cheer the team on to victory.
“Nobody wants the Tribe to win 15 games in a row more than us,” Barr said in a statement prior to the game, Yahoo Sports reported.
Twitter had fun with the promotion.
