Whitney Houston’s best friend, Robin Crawford, has admitted that the two were lesbian lovers. Crawford’s upcoming memoir "A Song For You: My Life with Whitney Houston" details the gay relationship, according to the New York Post.
Rumors were rampant for years that Whitney and Robin were gay lovers, but Whitney and her camp denied it, worried about the effect it would have on the superstar’s career. Now Robin is telling all including details of their first kiss, which she described as “long and warm like honey.”
Crawford, 58, became friends with Houston in 1980 and their friendship lasted 20 years. “We wanted to be together,” she said, according to People magazine.
After Houston signed with Arista, she ended the physical aspect of her relationship with Crawford. “She said if people find out about us, they would use this against us and back in the ’80s that’s how it felt,” Crawford said.
According to People, Houston’s mother Cissy Houston, put pressure on the singer to not have a physical relationship with Crawford, who remembered: “Whitney told me her mother said it wasn’t natural for two women to be that close, but we were that close.”
Houston died in 2012 at age 48.
“Whitney knows I loved her and I know she loved me,” Crawford said.
In her book, Crawford writes, “Caressing her and loving her felt like a dream.” The book will be released Nov.12.
