A jealous White House aide to President Barack Obama was arrested after she threatened her boyfriend with his own Capitol police service weapon during an argument about him seeing someone else, according to police who say she ended up shooting a sofa.

Barvetta Singletary, 37, a special assistant to the President and House legislative affairs liaison, was arrested at her home on Friday in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and charged with domestic violence after her boyfriend ran from the residence when Singletary pointed his gun at him while demanding passwords to his cellphones, police told WRC-TV.

The boyfriend, a U.S. Capitol police officer, told authorities that Singletary had grabbed his service weapon and two cellphones while in his car and ran into her home, said WRC-TV. When he followed her into the home and asked for his gun back, he claimed she pointed the weapon at him and demanded the phones' passwords, said the television station.

"Your phone is more important than me holding the gun on you?" Singletary reportedly asked him before firing a round into a sofa, said WRC-TV. The boyfriend told police, according to the television station, that he ran from the home and called authorities.

Singletary had her White House access revoked and was placed on unpaid leave on Monday, officials told CNN. She was released on $75,000 bond from jail in Prince George's County, Maryland.

"We will take additional actions as needed," a White House spokesperson said on Monday in a statement about Singletary.

U.S. Capitol Police spokeswoman Kimberley Schneider told CNN the agency is investigating the incident.

"Department employees are held to a high standard of conduct and the matter will receive a thorough review consistent with our policies and procedures," said Schneider.

Singletary was named to her White House post after serving U.S. Rep. James Clyburn as his policy director, the Kingstree News in South Carolina reported last year. At the time, Clyburn was the third ranking Democratic in the House.

In her job with Clyburn, Singletary was responsible for overseeing all policy initiatives on his legislative agenda while managing his team of policy professionals, in which she oversaw drafting and analysis, and made recommendations to Clyburn.
