A "Wheel of Fortune" "naked" fail proved epic for one contestant who blew the name of a classic Tennessee Williams play that was turned into an Oscar-winning movie with the mistake going viral on social media.
Contestants were completing the puzzle that revealed the name to Williams' well-known play "A Streetcar Named Desire" with the "m" still missing from "named," USA Today noted.
The contestant named Kevin appeared to have had the game well in hand, getting the "c" correct, completing the name "streetcar," but then guessed "k" for the final blank, which would have made the word "naked." Wrong answer.
Some groaned in the audience at Kevin's answer before Lisa gave the correct "m" answer to complete the puzzle and steal the game. Host Pat Sajak tried to make light of the epic fail.
"Although you've got the right answer, I'd rather see Kevin's play," Sajak joked with Lisa after the contest.
"A Streetcar Named Desire" won the Pulitzer Prize for drama in 1948 and the movie version won four Academy Awards including Vivien Leigh for best actress in 1952.
Entertainment Weekly writer Derek Lawrence said the response on Twitter to Kevin's answer was "shocked and hilarious."
