Weird Al Yankovic parodied "every sports press conference ever" in a video that's going viral and eliciting more than a few chuckles over how accurately it sums up the post-game commentary from coaches and players.
Sitting behind a tag labeling him a "Grizzled Coach," Yankovic spells it out pretty clearly: "Before we open it up for questions, let me just say the coaches coached, the players played, and there are a lot of repressed emotions present on stage right now."
The second person at the conference, the "Star Player," then comments on how hard everyone worked, putting in a "mathematically impossible number" to relay how stupendous the team was. He hands tribute to the "Bench Player (who had a surprisingly good game)" and his amazing plays.
A question from "Attractive Female Sideline Reporter, Major Sports Network" asked whether the team will be able to treat her in the same manner as they treated her male colleagues.
"Your question implies that I have respect for anyone in this room, and we all know that just isn't true," Yankovic says to laughter.
A "Young Male Blogger" then asks for a quote that he can take out of context.
The press conference parody, which was created in partnership with sports website The Kicker, was greeted with glee online:
With his hair cut off and gray, Yankovic wasn't immediately recognizable in the clip, and he didn't sing as he usually does in his parodies. Still, fans loved it.
"I like sports but every single interview is the same and they are so pointless, this video captured that
sentiment quite well," one person commented on YouTube.
