Waters: Obama Ignores Black Community on Jobs

By    |   Sunday, 04 September 2011 04:25 PM EDT

Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., contends that President Barack Obama has seemed indifferent and has ignored the black community regarding jobs.

“We’re going to lose more jobs, more people are going to be unemployed, the African-American rate will probably go up to about 20 percent,” as the congressional supercommittee slashed the budget, the Waters said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” today, according to Politico.

Waters, the head of the Congressional Black Caucus, also urged Obama to stand up to conservatives as he prepares his jobs package.

“The president must be bold,” Waters said. “I don’t think he can shrink from the threats of the right. I don’t think he can have a program that simply gives more tax breaks to the people who got us into trouble in the first place.”
