Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway will return to present the Best Picture Oscar again this year after announcing the wrong winner last year in an envelope mixup they swear will not be repeated.
The pair of iconic actors rehearsed their presentation together Thursday night, TMZ reported, even though the writers are still writing their lines for the moment of redemption.
Last year, the two reportedly disliked each other so much they did not rehearse together, TMZ said. When the presenters were given the wrong envelope, Dunaway mistakenly announced “La La Land” as the Best Picture winner when “Moonlight” was the correct film.
Accounting firm Pricewaterhouse Coopers was responsible for envelope mixup, and the firm has put new protocols into place to prevent further mistakes. Staff are no longer allowed to look at their phones or social media backstage, and will double-check the envelopes before the presenters take the stage.
Show producers Mike DeLuca and Jennifer Todd are sure this year’s show will not have a mistake like the one from last year, but said live shows can have unexpected moments at times.
“We are more aware that unexpected moments can happen on a live show,” Todd told People. “I don’t think it will be envelope-related but who knows what else it could be! We couldn’t have imagined that (envelope mix-up) before it happened, so you never know.”
The 90th Oscars will be broadcast live on Sunday, March 4, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
