Video of Trump Tossing Kid's Hat Called Misleading

A video of President Donald Trump that shows him tossing a kid’s hat during the White House Easter Egg Roll has stirred controversy, with some saying the viral video is misleading.

Trump has received criticism for tossing a teen's hat in the air after signing it at the event. While some reports say the teen never got his hat back, others dispute the claim.

In the video, posted on Twitter by Politico, Trump was seen signing at least two hats before tossing them back in the crowd with a smile on his face.

According to The Washington Free Beacon, the video immediately went viral, receiving thousands of retweets.

It was even picked up by multiple media outlets.

“Trump, using a thick Sharpie, put his signature on the bill of the cap, then looked up and lobbed it back into the crowd, with a smile, nowhere near the hand that had given it to him (presumably leaving the hat’s owner to scramble as Trump looked on and the crowd laughed),” according to The Washington Post.

Buzzfeed took to Twitter to say that the kid who originally asked for their hat to be signed, never got the hat back.

But the video doesn’t show enough to make that distinction.

NBC News’ Micah Grimes responded to Politico’s original tweet.

The Washington Post called the event a lighthearted moment between the president and White House visitors. The annual Easter Egg Roll is a day when thousands of people visit the South Lawn and kids get to participate in fun activities as the president is able to relax a bit and interact with visitors.

Trump’s hat incident was a topic of discussion among many Twitter users.
