A Texas veterinarian was fired and may face charges after bragging on social media about killing a feral cat with a bow and arrow.
The post ignited a social media firestorm, and Kristen Lindsey was fired from her job at Washington Animal Clinic where she had worked for two years
after the clinic received more than 500 calls, KBTX-TV reported.
"Our goal now is to go on and try to fix our black eye and hope that people are reasonable and understand that those actions don't anyway portray what we're for here at Washington Animal Clinic," Dr. Bruce Buenger told the station. "We put our heart and soul into this place."
Austin County Sheriff Jack Brandes said the incident was under investigation.
A post on the Sheriff’s department’s Facebook page said the department has been “snowed under” with calls about the case.
"This kind of stuff shouldn't happen in our society," Brandes told KBTX-TV. "It's a very sad thing. Hopefully we will get to the bottom of it and get the truth, 100 percent truth, and get it to the DA and put it in his hands if it needs to go any further."
The controversial post — which included a photo of the dead tomcat and the caption “The only good feral tomcat is one with an arrow through its head! Vet of the year award…gladly accepted” —
has been deleted and the Facebook page pulled down, KWTX-TV reported.
A new Facebook page called
Justice for Cat Murdered by Kristen Lindsey had more than 6,600 likes as of Friday afternoon.
An
online petition calling for Lindsey’s veterinary license to be revoked claimed the cat belonged to a neighbor and had been missing.
Twitter users expressed outrage.
