The Venom F5, Hennessey's latest supercar, is expected to shatter the 270-mph speed record set by its predecessor by a staggering 20 mph when its makers start test runs later this year.
Named for the strongest classification of tornados, the Venom F5 will feature upgraded aerodynamics, technology, and power that could boost its
top speed to 290 mph, according to TopGear.com.
"I think something in [that] range will be possible," John Hennessey told BBC's auto site.

Technically, the current top speed record holder is Hennessey's Venom GT, which darted down the Kennedy Space Center's landing strip at 270.49 miles per hour back in February, beating the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport's time of
267.86 mph set in 2010, according to Fox News.
But the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport still holds the official record on a technicality because the Venom's run was not sponsored by Guinness World Records.
Kirby Garlitos of TopSpeed.com said it's just a matter of time before the Venom officially owns the speed record and noted that the Venom F5 will serve to further distance Hennessey from its top competitor.
"[John Hennessey] apparently didn’t misspeak when he said '290 mph,' which is all the indication you need to know that Mr. Hennessey has either lost his mind or he is determined to drive Bugatti insane with constant pressure from Texas," Garlitos wrote.
"All of [the F5's 1,400 horsepower is] reined in by a single-clutch, paddle-shift transmission, not the Ricardo, six-speed manual found in the Venom GT. You can, however, opt for the manual, if you like. Start quivering in your boots, Bugatti. It's better to embrace the inevitable than continue fighting for your cause."
TopGear said that, while Hennessey has not yet set a price for the Venom F5, it will likely top the Venom GT's $1.2 million asking price.
