Vegetable Ice Cream: Haagen-Dazs to Sell Two New Flavors in Japan

Vegetable ice cream is coming soon to store shelves in Japan.

"Tomato Cherry" and "Carrot Orange" flavors will be offered by Haagen-Dazs beginning May 12, Rocket News24 reports. They two vegetable ice creams will be part of the iconic brand's "Spoon Vege" line of ice cream, but won’t be available in the U.S.

In a news release, Haagen-Dazs said the ice cream will contain about 8.5 percent milk fat, just a little more than half of what is in the regular Haagen-Dazs ice cream. Both vegetable flavors will be sold in 3.7 ounce containers and will sell for the equivalent of $2.80.

According to Eater National, the Tomato Cherry and Carrot Orange flavors join Haagan-Dazs’ “unorthodox Japan flavors” of rose and royal cassis milk.

Twitter users sad to see ice cream sullied by vegetables could only joke about the new flavors.

Haagen-Dazs is coming out with vegetable-flavored ice cream. I can’t wait to cry into a pint of broccoli after my next breakup.
