By    |   Friday, 20 June 2014 08:23 AM EDT

Valerie Middleton, Kate Middleton's grandmother, helped intercept enemy signals for Britain at the country's code-breaking center often described as the U.K.'s "spy school."

The Duchess of Cambridge, 32, visited Bletchley Park on Wednesday, where her grandma worked as a civilian staff member during World War II, according to E! Online. The park, which opened as a museum this week, once housed England's Government Code and Cypher School.

Clarence House, which represents the immediate royal family, including Duchess Kate's husband Prince William, released a World War II-era photo of Valerie Middleton, née Glassborow, on Wednesday.

E! Online reported that Bletchley Park went through a $13.6 million makeover so it could be turned into a museum.

"During her visit, Kate was pictured deciphering a morse code message using a replica radio that was used at Bletchley Park during WWII," wrote Hello! magazine. "She also received a fascinating insight into her grandmother's wartime experiences when speaking to Lady Marion Body. Marion worked alongside Valerie and her twin Mary, and was with the sisters during the moment they heard the war in Europe had ended."

Valerie Glassborow would go on to marry Peter Middleton, who was a British military pilot, in 1946. She died in 2006 at the age of 82, according to E! Online.

An upcoming movie about Bletchley Park code breaker Alan Turing, the British mathematician who broke Germany's Enigma Code, is set to star Benedict Cumberbatch, The Wrap reported.

"The Imitation Game" does not have an official release date yet, but also stars Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode, Mark Strong, and Charles Dance. It is directed by Morten Tyldum. The initial movie reviews have been positive so far.
