Uber has announced a partnership with Meals on Wheels America and will be donating $1 million over the next two years, including free rides for volunteers to make deliveries.
The two-year charitable partnership will also involve Uber employees volunteering at Meals on Wheels locations, Business Insider reported.
Meals on Wheels America provides free and low-cost meals to seniors in need, giving them hot food on weekdays and ready-to-eat meals for the weekend.
The partnership would provide a way for volunteers to make deliveries even if they don’t have a vehicle to drive.
More than 500 UberEATS restaurant partners also will donate $1 from each order they make on Wednesday, Nov. 22 to Meals On Wheels America, TechCrunch reported.
Meals On Wheels America has more than 500 affiliates and over 2 million volunteers across the country, TechCrunch reported. Many affiliates have struggled in recent years to get enough funding to provide meals for a growing senior population.
Twitter users were on board with the move.
