A university student who had too much to drink ended up taking a $1,700 Uber ride to a destination 250 miles from where he intended to go.
The U.K. based engineering major, who used the alias James when speaking with local media, explained that he climbed into the car after a night on the town but instead of punching his Newcastle address into the app, he accidentally typed in a Norwich address, Fox News reported.
James did not notice anything amiss as he slept through most of the five-hour drive. He woke up to a bill of roughly $1,700 and the realization that he would be missing his classes at Newcastle University.
"When I woke up, I literally thought it was a dream. Surely I hadn’t done this," he said.
The Uber driver took pity on James and waived the bill but the university student ran into more bad luck when he hopped onto a train home only to receive a fine for not having a train ticket.
