Five-year-old TyLon Pittman called 911 on Saturday night and reported that Grinch was trying to steal Christmas, which led to the mean one’s arrest by Byram, Mississippi, police.
After the 911 dispatcher posted about Pittman’s call on Facebook, police officer Lauren Develle came to his house to reassure him that his Christmas was safe, the Clarion-Ledger reported. Develle had grown up watching “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and had been previously compared to Cindy Lou Who on more than one occasion.
“The Grinch is not going to come steal your Christmas,” Develle told Pittman, the Clarion-Ledger reported. “I won’t let that happen.”
Pittman said he had seen videos about the Grinch on Facebook and YouTube, the Clarion-Ledger reported. He said he wanted the police to take the Grinch to jail if he showed up at Pittman’s house.
On Monday, the Grinch did come to Pittman’s house, and police brought him to jail with Pittman’s help. Pittman got to shut the holding cell door, and wouldn’t let the Grinch out even after he apologized for his crimes, the Clarion-Ledger reported.
Staring at the Grinch intently, Pittman asked him why he was stealing Christmas, but the Grinch just shrugged, the Ledger reported.
Pittman’s father apologized to the 911 operator for his son’s call, but the operator said it was fine and that it was one of the most interesting things to happen in her position, E! News reported.
The police gave Pittman a Grinch doll and Develle promised to give Pittman, who has wanted to be a police officer since he can remember, a job application upon his 21st birthday, the Clarion-Ledger reported.
