Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the 26-year-old Boston Marathon bombing suspect, was "entombed' at an undisclosed location courtesy of an unnamed individual who financed the burial, Worcester police confirmed in a statement Thursday.

"As a result of our public appeal for help a courageous and compassionate individual came forward to provide the assistance needed to properly bury the deceased," Worcester police said in a statement. "His body is no longer in the city of Worcester and is now entombed."

The body was removed from Worcester's Graham Putnam & Mahoney Funeral Parlor before midnight on Wednesday and transported to its final resting place, the Boston Globe reported.

For weeks, Tsarnaev's remains had been rejected by at least three local cemeteries in Massachusetts, which cited the stress his presence would cause to residents who have loved ones buried on the same grounds.

The burial location was approved by the bombing suspect's uncle, Ruslan Tsarni, who lives in Maryland and had been tasked with handling his Muslim burial rites.

"A dead person needs to be buried. That’s what tradition requires, that’s what religion requires, and I guess that’s what morals require," Tsarni told reporters earlier this week. "I’m left alone to deal with this matter."

Tsarnaev's mother and father remain in Russia and have continuously postponed a trip to the United States, fearing how officials and the public will treat them.

Tsarnaev’s widow, Katherine Russell, who had a child with him, waived her right to decide where her husband should be buried, the Boston Globe reported.

Cambridge was Tsarnaev's home in the United States after he emigrated with his family in 2002 from the Russian Republic of Dagestan.

Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis appeared relieved on hearing the news that Tsarnaev's body was buried.

"I hope it’s been buried. Because I don’t want to talk about these terrorists anymore," Davis told reporters. "This is something that should be put behind us. I personally would like it if we never had to mention these names again. Ever."
