Trump Turnberry, one of the president's golf resorts in Scotland, is no longer eligible for a lucrative tax break after the Scottish government changed the cutoffs for the transitional business rates relief scheme.

According to The Sunday Herald, which noted that the change was reportedly made with Trump's resort in mind, the Trump property is now above the cut-off point for the rebate, which is restricted to properties with a "rateable value" of up to £1.5 million, or about $2 million USD. Trump Turnberry's rateable value is estimated at £1.6 million, according to the Herald.

Finance secretary Derek Mackay first announed the budget change in September.

"The SNP administration has a poor relationship with the right-wing president," the Herald reported. "Re-writing the eligibility criteria around business rates relief will be seen as an intentional rebuke to Trump."

Mackay reportedly faced public pressure to modify the tax break structure after it was revealed over the summer that Trump Turnberry "had benefited by £109,530 for 2017/18," according to the BBC.

Trump first purchased the luxury hotel and golf course in 2014, but turned over control of his business dealings to his children when he ascended to the office of president.
