Conservative commentator and Donald Trump supporter Tomi Lahren received both support and praise in return from the president after a woman threw water at Lahren as she was leaving a Minneapolis restaurant.
Lahren, a Fox News contributor, also received support from an unexpected person — anti-Trump comedienne Kathy Griffin.
Lahren was reportedly accosted and called a “racist” by a group of young people as she was leaving the restaurant with her parents over the weekend, HuffPost reported.
After news of her assault was published, the president reached out to her on his favorite social media platform.
“Everybody is with Tomi Lahren, a truly outstanding and respected young woman!” Trump tweeted.
Just how much “everybody is with” her was revealed when Griffin tweeted her own support for Lahren.
Griffin paraphrased the oft-quoted Evelyn Beatrice Hall statement: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." She tweeted:
Griffin hosted a CNN News Year’s Eve special with network correspondent Anderson Cooper for a decade. But after she posted a photo of her holding a likeness of Trump’s severed head last year, the network dropped her.
She remained off TV until her appearance on Bill Maher’s HBO show “Real Time” in March.
