Official portraits of President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence have been released by the White House more than nine months after the inauguration on January 20.
The portraits, commissioned by the U.S. Government Publishing Office and distributed to more than 9,000 federal buildings, show a grinning Trump and smiling Pence, CNN reported. Agencies have been anxiously awaiting the portraits since the previous ones of Obama and Biden were taken down on Inauguration Day.
No reason was given for why it seemed to take an unusually long time for the portraits to be released; Obama’s official portrait was released three months after he took office, and Bill Clinton’s was available by June 1993, The Washington Post reported.
According to CNN, however, it appears that Trump may have been waiting for the completion of renovations to the Oval Office, since the wallpaper from that renovation appears in the background of his portrait. Renovations were completed in August, meaning that the portrait must have been taken relatively recently.
Pence’s official photographer, D. Myles Cullen, took his portrait, CNN reported.
Some agencies printed temporary pictures to hang until the official portraits were ready.
