Trump: GOP Wants Me to Play Role at Convention

By    |   Monday, 06 August 2012 01:37 PM EDT

Donald Trump’s name may not have appeared on the initial list of top speakers at the Republican National Convention later this month, but the real estate billionaire says you can rest assured that he’s wanted.

Asked on “Fox & Friends” if the GOP wants him to have a role at the Tampa confab, The Donald said, “I know they want me to. I’ll see what happens.”

Trump will receive the “Statesman of the Year” award from the Sarasota, Fla. Republican Party Aug. 26, the day before the convention begins. The TV star has worked hard on behalf of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

The speakers announced for the convention so far are South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Arizona Sen. John McCain, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, and Florida Gov. Rick Scott.
