Trevor Noah, the South African comedian that succeeded Jon Stewart at "The Daily Show" earlier this year, underwent an emergency appendectomy Wednesday morning.
"We're happy to report the procedure went well and he is currently recuperating from the surgery. As a result, 'The Daily Show' will air an encore tonight. We expect he and the show will be back with an original episode tomorrow," Comedy Central reported via Twitter.
Upon hearing the news, fellow late night TV host Jimmy Fallon tweeted a note of sympathy, alluding to his own hand injuries earlier this year that sent him to the hospital on multiple occasions.
Noah, 31, took over "The Daily Show" on September 28. It "received mixed reviews from critics,"
the BBC reported.
Prior to Stewart, who helmed the show for 16 years, Craig Kilborn was the host of the show, from July 1996 to December 1998.
Noah's introduction comes less than a year after Comedy Central replaced Steven Colbert (now host of David Letterman's "Late Show") with Larry Wilmore, who hosts "The Nightly Show."
